═══ 1. About Undelpm ═══ UNDELPM version 1.02 (demo version) Copyright 1993, 1994 by David B. Gillespie All rights reserved. UNDELPM is a Presentation Manager application, that can be used instead of *OS/2's UNDELETE, to undelete (restore) files from the DELDIR directory. This demo version is fully functional with one execption, you will only be allowed to work with the first 14 files in the DELDIR directory. This limitation only pertains to this evaluation version. If you restore any of the first 14 files and use the option to remove files from the DELDIR directory (default action) or chose to permanently discard files (Options menu), the next time you execute UNDELPM you will be presented with a different list of files provided there were more than 14 files in the DELDIR directory to begin with. DELDIR directory refers to the directory pointed to by the DELDIR environment variable. Please refer to Undelete in the OS/2 Command Reference if you are unfamiliar with DELDIR. WARNING ! You should NOT run UNDELPM if other processes are running that may delete files. If you do, CONTROL.DEL could possibly end up being corrupted. This means that CONTROL.DEL may contain names of files that no longer exist in the DELDIR directory. See also Error updating CONTROL.DEL under ERROR Dialogs and Messages Information You must select Target -> Target directory before the Restore function will execute. You will be notified that UNDELPM can not find the DELDIR directory if you do not have the DELDIR environment variable set. If you are given the message that CONTROL.DEL can not be found, it means there are no files to undelete. IMPORTANT NOTE: UNDELPM looks for the DELDIR directory on the drive you were logged onto when it was started if you start it from the command line or the drive pointed to by the working directory in the program's setup folder if you start it from it's icon. You will be presented with a listbox of ALL files that can be undeleted. Each line will have the timestamp and date of the file, followed by the name of the file. Order information: You can obtain the non-demo version by filling out the order form and sending it with check or money order to: DBG Software Rt. 1 Box 338-H Byhalia, MS 38611 NOTE: Check or money order must be made payable to David B. Gillespie ═══ 2. Action Information ═══ The Action menu will present you with these four choices: ■ Restore ■ Stop ■ Exit ■ About UNDELPM... -- Product information. ═══ 3. ERROR Dialogs and Messages Information ═══ These are dialogs and messages you could encounter while UNDELPM is executing. ═══ 3.1. Can NOT open for write ═══ The file you are undeleting already exists in the target directory and is in use by another process. Try again later. The only action you can take is to Press OK. ═══ 3.2. Warning! File exists. ═══ The file you are undeleting already exists in the target directory. You have three possible responses for this dialog. You will be asked if you want to overwrite the file. Press YES if you do, NO if you don't or Stop Restore function (there will be no further processing of any marked files). ═══ 3.3. Path NOT found! ═══ This means the source file no longer exists in the DELDIR directory or the original directory does NOT exist now. The only response possible is to Press OK. ═══ 3.4. Error updating CONTROL.DEL ═══ CONTROL.DEL can NOT be updated, more than likely because it was in use by another process. In this case, you can manually copy the file CONTROL.TMP to CONTROL.DEL later. This should only happen if you are running another process that is using CONTROL.DEL. If it did not get updated properly, it may contain names of files that no longer exist in the DELDIR directory. If you copy CONTROL.TMP to CONTROL.DEL, you may end up with files in the DELDIR directory that are not listed in CONTROL.DEL. This is why it is important that you do not run UNDELPM if other processes are running that could delete files. ═══ 3.5. Error updating UNDELPM.INI ═══ UNDELPM.INI could not be updated. The file UNDELPM.TMP will contain the information that UNDELPM.INI should contain. Copy UNDELPM.TMP to UNDELPM.INI so it will have the correct information. ═══ 4. Exit Information ═══ Select Action -> Exit to terminate program execution. Pressing Alt F4 has the same effect. NOTE: You can NOT exit the program while the Restore function is in progress. ═══ 5. Help Menu ═══ Use the choices on the Help pull-down to display: Help index Displays the index of help menu. General Help Provides detailed information on the kinds of help available and how to use help. Using Help Displays some information about the UNDELPM program. ═══ 5.1. Using Help ═══ Use this choice to obtain information on how to use the Help facility. ═══ 5.2. General Help ═══ Use this choice to get general help for the program. General help provides general information about this program. ═══ 5.3. Index ═══ Use this choice to display the help index. The help index lists the titles of the help information that is available. ═══ 5.4. Key Assigments ═══ The list of keys is arranged in groups. HELP KEYS F1 Get help Esc Previous Help Panel, or End help if only one panel Alt Switch TO/OUT action bar Alt+F4 End help or End program SYSTEM KEYS Alt+Esc Switch to the next program, including full-screen programs Ctrl+Esc Switch to the Task List WINDOW KEYS Underlined letter Move among the choices on the action bar and pull-downs submenu or execute the function chosen Alt+Underlined letter Execute the function chosen immediately ═══ 6. Options Information ═══ This menu provides you with four items, Restore Options..., Discard all files..., Discard selected, and Color... ═══ 6.1. Restore Options... ═══ The default action of UNDELPM is to remove files from the DELDIR directory after a successful restore of marked files. If you would like a copy of the file to remain in the DELDIR directory after a completed Restore, select Options -> Restore Options... -> Leave files in DELDIR. ═══ 6.2. Discard all files Dialog ═══ To permanently discard all files in the DELDIR directory, select Options -> Discard all files.... You will be presented with a dialog asking you if you want to delete the files. Press YES to continue. If you do not want to continue press NO or CANCEL. NOTE: This demo version will only discard the files you see in the list box, NOT all of the files in the DELDIR directory. ═══ 6.3. Discard selected files ═══ To permanently discard only selected files in the DELDIR directory, select Options -> Discard selected. All marked files will be discarded. ═══ 6.4. Color Help ═══ This menu choice lets you set the foreground and background colors for UNDELPM. Check the foreground or background (default) box and push the button beside the color you want to use. Then push Set color to put the change into effect. Press OK or CANCEL when you are through setting the colors. Press the SAVE button to save the colors to UNDELPM.INI. This causes the color scheme to be saved when UNDELPM terminates. UNDELPM will use the color scheme you saved the next time it is executed. ═══ 7. Restore Information ═══ This menu item will start the Restore function if you have selected a Target directory and have marked files to undelete. This function places marked files into the target directory. Once this function is started, you can stop it by selecting Stop from the Action menu. If a file is still marked after this function (Restore) has completed, it means that no action was taken on the marked file. ═══ 8. Stop Information ═══ Selecting the Stop menu item from the Action menu will stop the Restore function in progress. ═══ 9. Target Information ═══ This dialog prompts you for a target directory for files being undeleted. You will be presented with the current directory in an edit field. You can edit this field or press OK or CANCEL. Pressing OK results in the directory displayed in the edit field to be used for the target unless you select "Use original directory". Pressing CANCEL will cause the directory that was displayed in the edit field when the dialog appeared to be used for the target unless you have previously chosen "Use original directory" during the current session. You can click on "Use original directory" if you want files to be placed back into the original directory they were deleted from. The directory name in the edit field will be ignored in this case. The default action of UNDELPM is to warn you if it is about to overwrite an existing file. If you do NOT want this warning, click on "Query overwrite when file exists" checkbox to remove the checkmark. ═══ 10. Window Information ═══ This menu will enable you to Refresh the window, Select all files for undelete (or discard), or Deselect all files that may be marked. Files can also be marked for restore by clicking on the name in the list box. ═══ ═══ OS/2 is a trademark of IBM Corp.
